Summary

On the night of the blood moon, the Vampire Lord must die。

Floriane's position as the forge maiden of Hunter's Hamlet is one of reverence, for it is her skill that arms and protects the vampire hunters。 She knows her place and is a faithful servant to the Master Hunter and her community。。。 until the night of the blood moon。 Until her brother is dying at the hands of the Vampire Lord Ruvan。

Wanting to defend her home at all costs, Floriane fights the vampire lord, ready to give her life if it means taking his。 But Ruvan doesn't want to take her life。。。 he wants her。

Kidnapped and brought to the vampire castle, Floriane is now blood sworn to the vampire lord。 She is bound in mind and body to her worst enemy。 But Ruvan isn't the fiend she thought he was。 She learns the truth of the vampires: They are not mindless monsters, but a proud people, twisted and tortured by an ancient curse。

Ruvan believes that Floriane might be the key to ending his people's suffering。 All Floriane wants is to defend her home。 Loyalties are tested and the lines between truth and lie, hate and passion, are blurred。

When her dagger is at his chest, will she be able to take the heart of the man who has claimed hers?

A darkly-reimagined Snow White meets inspiration from Beauty and the Beast in an epic fantasy world of hunters, vampires, and curses that run deeper than blood。 This stand alone is complete with a "happily ever after" ending。 It's perfect for fantasy romance fans looking for just the right amount of steam and their next slow-burn and swoon worthy, enemies to lovers story。

While it is set in the Married to Magic universe, readers can start with this book。

I’ve only read A Deal with the Elf King myself previously and could enjoy this book fully without having the idea I missed something because I hadn’t read A Dance with the Fae Prince yet。 I really enjoyed the plot of this book, with a curse that needs to be broken and enemies being forced to work together。 The world building was done very well, a lot more complex that A Deal with the Elf King in my opinion。 Maybe that was also the reason it was a little harder to get into。 The same could be said about the magic system, while very unique, it was very complex and sometimes I had to re-read a passage to fully understand what was being told。 I really enjoyed Floriane as a character。 She was very over paranoid, which made her quite funny sometimes。 She is more than meets the eye and I loved discovering those layers。 Ruvan is just super sweet to be honest。 I had expected him to be more of a grey character than he was。 The romance between the two is quite cute, I loved the line “Let’s hate each other so we can forgive ourselves for wanting each other。” It actually really sums up their dynamics of trying to hate each other to not have to think about their real feelings for each other。 The ending was really satisfying to read。 There wasn’t really a super big plot twist, but I really liked the direction the ending had gone。 (view spoiler)[ The only thing I found a pity was that they had to put Ruvan to sleep at some point, making him absent in the ending "fight" and everything。 (hide spoiler)]Overall, it was another enjoyable book written by Elise Kova! A story about hope that I enjoyed with likable characters and a well developed world。 。。。more

This is the third book in the Married to Magic series, but don't think you have to read them in any particular order。 They are standalone books set in the same world! This book will blow you away。 I was given the ARC to read from the author for my honest review。 I thought this book has one of the best world-building to date。 I can't tell you how often I found myself drawn to grabbing this book and reading it for hours and having to pace myself。 This book has a lot of new vampire lore that I have This is the third book in the Married to Magic series, but don't think you have to read them in any particular order。 They are standalone books set in the same world! This book will blow you away。 I was given the ARC to read from the author for my honest review。 I thought this book has one of the best world-building to date。 I can't tell you how often I found myself drawn to grabbing this book and reading it for hours and having to pace myself。 This book has a lot of new vampire lore that I have never seen before。 This book doesn't have your sparkling vamps of old, it has real 'vampir' and it has an amazing storyline。 Twists and turns and is it dark。。。absolutely。。。does it shine。。。of course! You will follow a young forge maiden named Flor and she is not like your regular damsel in distress。 She is strong, brilliant, built with amazing muscles, and excellent dark short hair。 I know you can go and read the blurb about this book but what you won't find in the blurb is the personal experience I had reading it。 There are some parts that will make you laugh out loud, gasp in stress, and cry。。。yes actually cry with worry。 This book has it all。 Kova doesn't disappoint with this novel。 The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars for me is that I felt that book's ending was a bit flat but that is just my personal opinion。 I loved this book and all the characters。 。。。more

Wow I found book one of this series at the used bookstore and never looked back! This was by far the best book of 2022 and I will be glad to reread these again in the coming week。 Very rarely do I find stories that are worth rereading so soon。 This story gives a new origin to the world of vampires and I can not wait for more!! I’m a huge fan of the series and had been looking forward to reading this one。 Unfortunately, I didn’t love it as much as the previous two。 Even though each book is its own thing, the previous two connected to one another which was very nice。 This one can totally be a standalone since it doesn’t touch on ANYTHING from the other two。 Sure, it mentions the Elf King, the Human Queen, and the fae but it is so vague that it might as well have nothing to do with the world。Putting all that aside, I gue I’m a huge fan of the series and had been looking forward to reading this one。 Unfortunately, I didn’t love it as much as the previous two。 Even though each book is its own thing, the previous two connected to one another which was very nice。 This one can totally be a standalone since it doesn’t touch on ANYTHING from the other two。 Sure, it mentions the Elf King, the Human Queen, and the fae but it is so vague that it might as well have nothing to do with the world。Putting all that aside, I guess I found it hard to connect with Floriane and Ruvan。 It took a while for me to get into each reading session and I didn’t feel that pull to come back to it。 I will admit that the later part had me intrigued since we got the revelation of the big mystery。 I did enjoy the way the story was developed even if I couldn’t vibe with the characters。 The way bits of information were dropped along the way was a pretty cool way to keep us confused!I look forward to seeing what we’re going to read about next in this world…I have a feeling it’ll be mermaids! A DUEL WITH THE VAMPIRE LORD is a fast-paced new stand-alone installment in the Married to Magic series。 Floriane is the forge maiden of Hunter's Hamlet, the small town that exists to protect the rest of the human world from the vampires that come through every full moon。 The book begins just before the blood moon, a phenomenon that happens every 500 years when the Vampire Lord leads his army through the veil。 If he should be killed, it is said that the scourge would end forever。This year, Flori A DUEL WITH THE VAMPIRE LORD is a fast-paced new stand-alone installment in the Married to Magic series。 Floriane is the forge maiden of Hunter's Hamlet, the small town that exists to protect the rest of the human world from the vampires that come through every full moon。 The book begins just before the blood moon, a phenomenon that happens every 500 years when the Vampire Lord leads his army through the veil。 If he should be killed, it is said that the scourge would end forever。This year, Floriane's twin brother is convinced that he can end it once and for all, as one of the lead Hunters in the town。 As the forge maiden, Floriane's duty from birth has been to learn how to craft the weaponry that will allow them to destroy the vampires who come through。 Now that she is 19, she will be assigned a spouse by the Head Hunter to bear heirs to pass the knowledge onto, as part of her duty to the town。 On this night of the blood moon, her brother has snuck her a vial of Hunter's Elixir。 Though it is forbidden to anyone but hunters, it gives the person who drinks it extra strength to fight the vampires。 She is to use it to protect herself and their mother。On the night of the blood moon, Floriane is determined to survive and drinks the elixir before she follows her brother's cries to see the Vampire Lord destroying him。 She fights with him, and he captures her, taking her into their realm。 There, Floriane becomes bloodsworn with him as they seek to undo the curse placed upon the vampir, and she begins to learn that all the things she thought she knew about the vampir are distorted by a human lens, with the truth being far from simple。What I loved: This book tackles some important themes around ethical perspectives and the need for empathy。 Vampir and humans have been fighting for thousands of years, and both sides see the devastation that has been wrought。 However, when Floriane begins to work with Ruvan, she starts to understand how humans do not have the whole picture and that nothing is a simple as she had been led to believe。 It is her empathy that begins to undo the conditioning against vampir with which she has been raised。 The need to see and understand both sides is what ultimately leads to resolution of the conflict (though, of course, with some magical twists)。The book is told from Floriane's perspective, and she is a really compelling character。 Her life has been limited by her role in society, and she wants more from it than just to be a tool of humanity。 The forge maiden is always set apart and her marriage decided for her, but she dreams of choosing her own match and falling in love。 On this journey, she begins to find herself, her wants, and embrace herself as she is, outside of Hunter's Hamlet。 I appreciated her coming-of-age style arc。 Ruvan is also a really interesting character, and his understanding and passion really endears him to the reader, though it takes longer for he and Floriane to get their act together。 His covenant were also characters that really grow on the reader, and I loved getting to know them。The plot is really fast-paced with a lot more fighting than in previous books, mostly due to the nature of the vampir/human relations (or lack thereof)。 The romance sneaks up slowly on the reader and feels like a natural build, while the main plot is around the curse and the necessity of breaking it。 I think this will appeal more to fantasy vs romance readers for that reason, but I really enjoyed the fantasy focus! Other intriguing themes around the the unique magic that we each carry, revenge, and the morality of magic as it can be twisted by the user were also really thought-provoking and great for a fantasy audience。 A unique element in the book is around the inclusion of the dreams that Floriane begins to have, and I appreciated these interludes as well as the way that they build in the story。 Ultimately, the ending was highly satisfying and took some very unexpected twists along the way that I really enjoyed。Final verdict: An enthralling and thought-provoking fantasy romance, A DUEL WITH THE VAMPIRE LORD is sure to enchant readers with a compelling romance, intriguing themes, and unforgettable characters。 Highly recommend for fantasy readers who love a touch of romance, surprising twists, and stand-alone stories。Please note that I received an ARC。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

This was yet another great read by Elise Kova! The story started out a bit slow, which was great because this way I could ease into the story。 After that it quickly picked up pace, and the stakes were high until the very end! I have to admit that in this one I didn't wholly like the main character。 I couldn't really resonate with her, and I think this is the main reason for giving it 4 stars。 All in all it was an amazing read, one which I can highly recommend! The background story of the vampires was excellent。 So wistful and intricate, and I loved the way that it tied back in with Floriane and Ruvan。 I thought it was a great story and I did not guess the twist at the end。The ending, by the way, was amazing。 And that is all I'll say。So yeah, you all know this is an Elise Kova stan account, but I only speak the truth! He grew on me quickly, not the typical vampire character at all。 He was open and warming, he was attentive, emotional and have an air of desperation。 Those are not normal for most supernatural stories so that again made me enjoy this book。 The supporting characters ( his vampire council) were such a fun addition to story and a few could easily have their own novellas。 I'm greatful to have read DWTVL, it renewed my interest in reading more vampir books! 。。。more

This is such a good story! It has vampires, a strong female lead, and a huge mystery。 I love the way the main characters question and fight their feelings every step of the way。 I love the way Ruvan needs Riane to save him from the curse。 I love the way Riane slowly becomes part of their clan。 The end was a little vague, but otherwise this was great。 *I received an ARC of this book, and I am giving my honest opinion。*

I really enjoyed this story and liked that the main female character was a smith, or as her village called her, a forge maiden。 Floriane and her mother work in the smithy to provide the hunters of Hunter's Hamlet the armor and weapons they need to fight the vampires who terrorize the town every full moon。 A blood moon is coming, which means the Vampire Lord will be crossing the fade marsh with his minions, to attack the town。 Floriane's brother, Drew, is a hunter and goes out with the other hunt I really enjoyed this story and liked that the main female character was a smith, or as her village called her, a forge maiden。 Floriane and her mother work in the smithy to provide the hunters of Hunter's Hamlet the armor and weapons they need to fight the vampires who terrorize the town every full moon。 A blood moon is coming, which means the Vampire Lord will be crossing the fade marsh with his minions, to attack the town。 Floriane's brother, Drew, is a hunter and goes out with the other hunters to protect the town and to hopefully kill the Vampire Lord and stop the marauders once and for all。 But the Vampire Lord is not as he seems and the history between the humans and the vampires is not what Floriane thought it was。 She gets drawn into the drama when Drew gets into more than he can handle。 This was a good story, with several twists。 The author painted the scenes very well。 If you like fantasy with a strong, smart female main character, good secondary characters, warring species with an unusual and twisted history with tension, action, and a good story, pick up this book! 。。。more

As always Elise Kova spun a fantastic tale that felt very Romeo and Juliet esque of Vampires and a group of humans locked in a curse and destined to fight each other to the death。 There was so many suprises she unlocked as the book went on it actually kind of felt like a video game where you (and the characters of course) must figure out parts of history that’s been lost and the mystery of the curse to be able to move on to the next level or clue。 I felt like this book was a bit darker than the As always Elise Kova spun a fantastic tale that felt very Romeo and Juliet esque of Vampires and a group of humans locked in a curse and destined to fight each other to the death。 There was so many suprises she unlocked as the book went on it actually kind of felt like a video game where you (and the characters of course) must figure out parts of history that’s been lost and the mystery of the curse to be able to move on to the next level or clue。 I felt like this book was a bit darker than the other married to magic books but was exceptional and gave me all the feels and definitely left me waiting for the next book in this series。 You can read this book as a stand alone or if you read the previous married to magic series book you would have a little insight into the world already。 I was gifted a review copy but these are all my thoughts and are not affected by the author or receiving a review copy。 。。。more

I loved getting to know this side of the world and all the Secrets it held, the characters were phenomenal。 The dynamic between everyone was a lot of fun and getting to know them。 If you really enjoyed A Deal with the Elf King then I think you will enjoy this installment, Floriane and Ruvan reminded me of them and I just really loved their connection。 The twist in the story was alot of fun; I kinda had a feeling it was coming but the way it was done really had me hooked。 Seeing Floraine’s growth I loved getting to know this side of the world and all the Secrets it held, the characters were phenomenal。 The dynamic between everyone was a lot of fun and getting to know them。 If you really enjoyed A Deal with the Elf King then I think you will enjoy this installment, Floriane and Ruvan reminded me of them and I just really loved their connection。 The twist in the story was alot of fun; I kinda had a feeling it was coming but the way it was done really had me hooked。 Seeing Floraine’s growth was done fantastically, the way her eyes were slowly open to the poison in everything was just perfect。Everything about this book was absolutely fantastic and I’m just a few short days you all will be able to read it! I highly recommend。- 。。。more

I received an ARC I exchange for an honest review。I absolutely loved this! Each book keeps getting better and better。 I loved the enemies to Lovers dynamic and the world building itself。 Whilst this book takes place in the same world as the previous two books, I loved learning the different types of magic to each type of creature。 This one had blood lore! The ending was something I didn't see coming and while I expected the antagonist to be someone else, I enjoyed the reveal of who it actually wa I received an ARC I exchange for an honest review。I absolutely loved this! Wow, this was absolutely incredible。Thanks so much to Elise Kova for an ARC of this book; it is my favorite one yet in the Married to Magic series!I love her ability to create not just main characters, but a whole family of characters who bring the story to life and have a story to tell of their own。 Floriane, Ruvan, Drew, Quinn, Callos, Winny, Lavenzia, Ventos, they’re all amazing。“I might be the forge maiden, but I am no delicate flower。 I am as cold as silver。 As strong as iron。 I will bend f Wow, this was absolutely incredible。Thanks so much to Elise Kova for an ARC of this book; it is my favorite one yet in the Married to Magic series!I love her ability to create not just main characters, but a whole family of characters who bring the story to life and have a story to tell of their own。 Floriane, Ruvan, Drew, Quinn, Callos, Winny, Lavenzia, Ventos, they’re all amazing。“I might be the forge maiden, but I am no delicate flower。 I am as cold as silver。 As strong as iron。 I will bend for destiny, but not for any man。”I loved Floriane’s story arc。 From the forge maiden bound by her duty to a queen in her own right, it’s clear Flor is a force to be reckoned with right from the very beginning。 I loved the way she was able to grow out of her forge in her small marsh town。“Truthfully everything about this arrangement is uncomfortable,” I say outright。“Excellent。 Wouldn’t want you to get comfortable and stay too long。”So we all love enemies to lovers, right? I have never seen it done THIS WELL。 Normally, you get the two who have been born and bred to hate and ultimately kill the other, followed by an immense attraction where the hate just magically disappears like it was never there。 But in this beast and beauty of a novel, you get to experience it in a sense that is far more understandable, where the attraction is strong but the people within it are bred to their core to hate each other。 They truly have to outgrow their own upbringings amidst a curse that threatens everything they’re trying to build together。 It’s beautiful and tragic and I couldn’t get enough。This isn’t a spoiler at all, I don’t do those。 But the word dragon was mentioned and IF WE GET A MARRIED TO MAGIC WITH DRAGONS I WILL DIE FROM HAPPINESS。 That’s all I have to say about that。Some other quotes I loved from our simmering cinnamon roll:“If we’ve ‘hardly done anything’ then how have you become my everything?”“Floriane, you are fire, and chaos, and infinite possibility。 You’ve brought not just a heat and heartbeat to these halls but to my bones。 I don’t want to move forward without you at my side, so long as you will have me, so long as you want to explore us。”Buy this book。 You can start with this book - this isn’t a consequential series, and this book is the least connected of the other two。 I hope you love it as much as I did。 。。。more

Slow-burn romance, enemies to lovers, a strong feminist protagonist, and realistic characters who are flawed AND grow--A Duel with the Vampire Lord will surprise you in all the best ways。Full disclosure, I had the honor of receiving an ARC to honestly review。 I had high hopes for this third edition in the Married to Magic series after A Deal with the Elf King and A Dance with the Fae Prince。 Also, I was a major vampire fiction fan during my teenage years (and currently 。。。) that I've had a lot o Slow-burn romance, enemies to lovers, a strong feminist protagonist, and realistic characters who are flawed AND grow--A Duel with the Vampire Lord will surprise you in all the best ways。Full disclosure, I had the honor of receiving an ARC to honestly review。 I had high hopes for this third edition in the Married to Magic series after A Deal with the Elf King and A Dance with the Fae Prince。 Also, I was a major vampire fiction fan during my teenage years (and currently 。。。) that I've had a lot of different vampire worlds that this one would be measured up against。I LOVED the concept of forge maiden and how Floriane challenged gender norms, and yet she was still trapped by them in Hunter's Hamlet as well。 Watching her development throughout the novel was so beautiful and genuine。 Her relationship with Ruvan is a true enemies to lovers, but carried out in a realistic and healthy way。 Witnessing her and Ruvan open their minds was so heartwarming and renewed my faith in humanity。Beyond the characters of Ruvan, Quinn, Ventos, and others--I loved the concept of bloodlore and vampir (NOT vampire) and how vampir as a people and their magic fit into the pre-existing Midscape world。 It was hands-down one of my FAVORITE vampire worlds! If you are looking for a feminist, fantasy, slow-burn, empowering, Beauty and the Beast vibes novel with just the right amount of spice, A Duel with the Vampire Lord is your book!Thank you to Elise and Silver Wing Press for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more
